Country・Area Yemen
Yemen is one of the countries where gender disparity in education enrollment is the widest. The Yemeni government has been promoting decentralization since 2002 and it puts importance on administrative decentralization and community participation in education. However, the capacity of local education administration and school administrators was not sufficient, and the participation of community in education is lacking. The project objective was to develop an effective model of decentralized education administration based on active community participation to improve girls’ access to educational opportunities. Specific objectives included: (i) to enhance the capacity of education administration in Taiz Governorate; (ii) to promote community participation in basic education; and (iii) to enhance the capacity of school management.
