The northern corridor connecting landlocked the Republic of Uganda with Mombasa port in Kenya is one of the important lifelines for nation-wide economic activities of Uganda as well as for the entire East African Region. Recently, the deterioration and physical damage of the existing River Nile Crossing Bridge of this corridor became significant, and sometimes hampers the smoothness of regional cargo transport. To overcome this problem, one of urgent tasks to be implemented was the construction of a new bridge crossing the River Nile. The following activities were performed: Information collection of bio-physical environment around the project site; Roadside air quality measurement (NOX, SO2 and CO, 3 points) in order to obtain the baseline air quality data; Roadside noise measurement (Leq, 3 points, 24-hours continuous); Traffic accident prediction study based on the future traffic demand forecast; Vehicular emission study (CO2 emission loading); Technical assistance for the successful environmental impact analysis (EIA) studies, conducted by UNRA (Uganda National Road Authority) while organizing a technical transfer program covering three topics (i.e., roadside noise study, roadside air quality study and vehicular emission study).
