In accordance with the peace talks in 2006, the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal is now in the process of new nation building. The national political arena is experiencing many challenges for local governance. Various disputes and seeds for conflicts over rights for resources and development assistance are surfacing at community levels, which might cause existing divisions to become more evident. In this context, international development partners in Nepal have assisted in the field of strengthening community mediation systems in the early 2000s, which aim to provide an alternative dispute solution (ADR) as a supplemental tool to court-referred resolution. JICA Nepal has launched “The Strengthening Community Mediation Capacity for Peaceful and Harmonious Society Project” to provide technical support for the capacity building for community mediation targeting two (2) districts (Mahottari and Sindhuli) since January 2010. At the initial stage, it is planned to conduct Baseline Survey, Training for Trainers and Basic Training for selected villages in collaboration with the selected NGO.
