Private Sector DevelopmentHuman Resource Development

Client Japan International Cooperation Agency
Country・Area Palestine
Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), i.e., companies employing less than 20 persons, account for about 97% of the 110,000 companies in Palestine and contribute significantly to the economy in terms of the number employed (87% of all workers). However, MSMEs are not well-organized, have insufficient management skills, and lack a business orientation. In addition, since the market in Palestine is limited in size, many enterprises need to increase their competitiveness in overseas markets; therefore, the need for business training, business advice, and consultation in terms of marketing and quality improvement has been increasing. This project is establishing a system to provide quality Business Development Services (BDS) for MSMEs in Palestine. The main project partners are re the Ministry of National Economy (MONE), Federation of Palestinian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (FPCCIA) and Palestinian Federation of Industry. The project provides training for staff of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Industry Unions in the West Bank to develop local (national) experts in BDS. The training consists of lectures and on-the-job training in Business and Financial Management; Marketing; Production Control; and Sales Management, Consultation, and Business Diagnosis. In addition, the project supports the development of an institutional system by facilitating pilot services provision, role sharing among the stakeholders, and quality assurance of the services.
